{"id":2372,"date":"2018-10-24T15:05:01","date_gmt":"2018-10-24T20:05:01","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.employco.com\/blog\/?p=2372"},"modified":"2018-11-01T15:16:38","modified_gmt":"2018-11-01T20:16:38","slug":"changes-to-overtime-law-loom-what-employers-need-to-know","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.employco.com\/blog\/2018\/10\/24\/changes-to-overtime-law-loom-what-employers-need-to-know\/","title":{"rendered":"Changes to Overtime Law Loom: What Employers Need to Know"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em>Employment trends expert weighs in on private-sector overtime pay requirements<\/em><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-medium\" src=\"http:\/\/www.employco.com\/images\/blog\/Blog_Overtime.jpg\" alt=\"Overtime\" width=\"350\" height=\"250\" \/>Overtime continues to be a developing hot button topic in states across the United States, with Washington being the latest state to draft a proposal which would offer overtime to professional workers who earn 1.5 times that of minimum wage.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWorkers who earn slightly more than $37,000 a year would be eligible for overtime when they work over 40 hours a week,\u201d says Rob Wilson, President of Employco USA and employment trends expert. \u201cWhile some say that these changes are good news for employees, others caution that it could spell financial ruin for small-business owners.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Since 2016 when President Obama signed an overtime law which made employees who earned less than $47,476 a year eligible for overtime compensation, many small business owners have been fearful that they will not be able to keep pace with new requirements.
