{"id":3153,"date":"2020-06-03T11:11:44","date_gmt":"2020-06-03T16:11:44","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.employco.com\/blog\/?p=3153"},"modified":"2020-11-23T11:17:56","modified_gmt":"2020-11-23T17:17:56","slug":"hacks-for-maximizing-ppp-forgiveness-how-to-covid-proof-your-business","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.employco.com\/blog\/2020\/06\/03\/hacks-for-maximizing-ppp-forgiveness-how-to-covid-proof-your-business\/","title":{"rendered":"Hacks for Maximizing PPP Forgiveness: How to COVID-Proof Your Business"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em>Employment trends expert Rob Wilson shares exclusive advice on PPP and what employers must know<\/em><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-medium\" src=\"https:\/\/www.employco.com\/images\/blog\/Blog_COVID-19.png\" alt=\"COVID-19\" width=\"350\" height=\"233\" \/>Last week the House passed the Paycheck Protection Program Flexibility Act by 417-1, with the aim of easing strain on small business owners who are being crushed by the coronavirus pandemic and work stoppage.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe House made important modifications to PPP which really lightened the burden on small businesses,\u201d says Rob Wilson, President of Employco USA and employment trends expert. \u201cThey reduced the percentage of the loan which must be spent on payroll down to 60%, which ensures that employers can spend the funds on other necessary business expenses.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Still, Wilson knows that this won\u2019t be enough for many businesses.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>\u201cMany of my clients are very concerned about how they can safeguard their companies during this global disaster,\u201d says Wilson. \u201cOver 100,000 small businesses have already closed as a direct result of this pandemic. And I fear many more companies will follow suit.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>To that end, the human resources expert suggests the following tips for helping employers to make the most of PPP forgiveness:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Don\u2019t forget to include employer-paid benefit amounts in the payroll costs, including group medical, dental, vision, FSA and 401(k) plans. <\/strong>\u201cYou can use PPP not just for wages, but for many benefits you are paying to your employees.
