In March 2023, Illinois enacted the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ilga.gov\/legislation\/fulltext.asp?DocName=&amp;SessionId=110&amp;GA=102&amp;DocTypeId=SB&amp;DocNum=0208&amp;GAID=16&amp;LegID=129513&amp;SpecSess=0&amp;Session=0\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Paid Leave for All Workers Act<\/a>, which requires most Illinois employers to provide their employees with up to 40 hours per year of paid leave for any reason.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Among other factors, companies can comply with the law by changing their existing time off policy to:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Indicate that the time off can be used for any reason; and<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Indicate that the first 40 hours of time off each year will count towards the Illinois paid leave entitlement<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<!--more-->\n\n\n\n<p>Without changes to your company\u2019s existing paid time off policy, it\u2019s possible that employees would have a statutory right to additional paid leave (beyond your current vacation, sick, PTO policy) since there would have been no indication that they have used any to date.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Additional Resources<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.employco.com\/PDFs\/October2023_Employment-Law-Summary-Illinois.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Employment Law Summary<\/a> \u2013 The linked PDF provides more information on the new law and recently released FAQs<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Podcast and Webinar \u2013 Within the next several weeks, we will record a podcast and host a live webinar on this topic.
