The implementation has been delayed to July 1, 2024. Until the new law is effective in July, Chicago employees will continue to earn one hour of paid sick leave, not paid time off, for every 40 hours they work (or at least five days per year).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<!--more-->\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity is-style-default\"\/>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>California New Law Requires Separation Notices and Allows Electronic Unemployment and Tax Notices<\/strong> &#8211; On Sept. 30, 2023, California enacted a new law, <a href=\"https:\/\/legiscan.com\/CA\/text\/AB1355\/id\/2841269#:%7E:text=The%20bill%20would%20prohibit%20the,who%20meet%20specified%20eligibility%20criteria.\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Assembly Bill (AB) 1355<\/a>, that requires employers to immediately notify an employee, in writing, of any separation or other change in the employee\u2019s relationship with the employer. AB 1355 also establishes a five-year period within which employers may email certain notices if they obtain written opt-in statements from employees.
