The city\u2019s new rules differ from the state-paid prenatal leave requirements with respect to employers\u2019 written policies, employees\u2019 notification of the need for leave, documentation of leave, and penalties for violations. The city also issued an updated paid safe and sick time <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nyc.gov\/assets\/dca\/downloads\/pdf\/about\/PaidSafeSickLeave-MandatoryNotice-English.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">notice<\/a> for employer use. Among other changes, the bill includes a definition of \u201cfamily member\u201d and adds coverage for safe leave, bereavement leave, and military exigency leave. The bill also makes recovery from childbirth and miscarriage covered events. Notable changes reinforce the requirement that PFML run concurrently with leave under the federal Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA). Other provisions expand job restoration and affect the continuation of health care for employees on leave. The state is also tasked with creating a notice of PFML rights.
