Connecticut Adds Mental Health as Reason to Take Paid Sick Leave – Connecticut has amended the state’s paid sick leave law to require employers to allow eligible employees to take time off for mental health. The amendments, which take effect Oct. 1, 2023, also extend family violence and sexual assault leave to parents of victims. Read more: Connecticut Legal Update

Illinois Provides Paid Leave for All Workers – In March 2023, Illinois enacted the Paid Leave for All Workers Act, which requires most Illinois employers to provide their employees with up to 40 hours per year of paid leave for any reason. The Illinois Department of Labor has issued answers to frequently asked questions about the law, which takes effect Jan. 1, 2024. Read more: Illinois Legal Update

Maine to Require Workplace Poster for Veterans – On June 1, 2023, Gov. Janet Mills signed into law a bill mandating a new workplace poster explaining veterans’ benefits and services. The law requires the state Bureau of Labor Standards to create and distribute the poster to workplaces. The law takes effect 90 days following the end of the current legislative session, which is uncertain at this time. Read more: Maine Legal Update
