Nebraska Enacts Mini-WARN Act – On April 14, 2026, Nebraska enacted the Nebraska Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification Act (Act), which requires covered employers to give 90 days’ advance notice prior to a mass layoff or business closing. The Act takes effect on July 18, 2026.

Oklahoma Amends Medical Marijuana Law – On April 17, 2026, Oklahoma amended the Oklahoma Medical Marijuana and Patient Protection Act (Act) to establish zero-tolerance drug standards for employees in safety-sensitive positions and permit employers to discipline employees for a positive marijuana test result pursuant to a written drug testing policy. The amendment takes effect on Nov. 1, 2026.

Oregon Announces Minimum Wage Increases – Oregon recently announced that its three hourly minimum wage rates will increase by 50 cents per hour on July 1, 2026. The new rates apply to all employers, regardless of the number of individuals they employ.

Virginia Enacts Paid Family and Medical Leave – Virginia has enacted a paid family and medical leave insurance program (PFML) that will provide 12 weeks of partially compensated, job-protected leave to most Virginia employees. The effective date of the legislation is July 1, 2026. Contributions to fund the program start April 1, 2028, and benefits begin Dec. 1, 2028.

Virginia Enacts Pay Transparency Law – On April 22, 2026, Virginia enacted a pay transparency law requiring employers to disclose a wage or salary range in job postings and banning employers from seeking an applicant’s wage or salary history. The law is effective on July 1, 2026.
